4 VIDEOS: Optimization and Reconfiguration bring more Diversification into the Forest.
This 4 part video series was made on June 16, 2019, in Vail, Colorado at Donovan Park.
We've been conducting a research study in Vail and in the Winter Park area of Colorado since November of 2007. You can check this Key Summaries, Saving Lodgepole Pine Trees post to see how this study started. Another post called Video+Diagram: How Lodgepole Pines are Growing a Year After Treatment is also insightful. (You can do a search in the search-bar on the site for more "Colorado" posts as we are able to get more before/after photos posted.)
In these 4 videos, I talk about the results of the 12 years of work we did in Colorado between 2007 and 2019. And, I talk about those results from the point of view of certain ecosystem members, and about diversity in the whole ecosystem. Peppered into my explanations are insights and terminologies that we have developed in more recent years.
The bottom line is that the whole insect infestation event over all of those years was part of Nature's bigger picture. And I comment on our role which is setting the stage and acting in the background with both Nature and people. Nature has had a chance to reconfigure and optimize so that there is more diversity in the forest and the beings are healthier. People have shifted because the infestation event gave them an opportunity to view Nature differently and to take new actions.
We'll be back in Colorado in 2021.
Part 1: Optimization and Reconfiguration bringing more Diversification into the Forest.
In Part 1, I talk about how Nature wanted more diversification of tree species.
Part 2: Optimization and Reconfiguration bringing more Diversification into the Forest.
In part 2, the Aspen tree I was working with gave me a deeper look into our role in increasing the spread of Aspen and causing more diversity in the forests.
Part 3: Optimization and Reconfiguration bringing more Diversification into the Forest.
In Part 3: The Aspen tree gave me insight into the change in the dynamic of the ecosystem of the valley that occurred silently as a result of our work. In this part, I am able to talk about people seeing an opportunity.
Part 4: Optimization and Reconfiguration bringing more Diversification into the Forest.
In Part 4, I talk about how everything takes place in the "Light Ball."
